It would be such a shame if I got too tired and slid off. Craven’s already determined to think I’m not weak and I don’t want to do anything that will make him change his mind. His encouragement feels good and I want to keep the good vibes.

Daring to steal a glance, I realize we’re hovering close to my place and I call, “Down there.”

The dragon dives straight down, parking at the back of my house and I slide off. Craven shifts, his eyes lingering on the cottage and he frowns.

“This is where you live?” When I nod, he adds under his breath to himself, “Thank fuck I took her, she doesn’t even have a gate...”

He sounds appalled but I’ve always been safe here.

The poppies in my windows are still standing strong, and the windpipe plays when we step up on the porch.
